Announcing the theme and Keynote speaker for The UK Conference of Chinese Medicine 2025

We are delighted to announce our theme and keynote speaker for the UK Conference of Chinese Medicine 2025, jointly organised by the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM).

Watch a video from BAcC CEO, Alex Jacobs and RCHM CEO, Joanna Teasdale as they introduce the theme and pass over to hear from our keynote speaker herself as she further explains the deeper meaning and symbolism of our chosen character design ‘jie’.

It is with great pleasure that we can now tell you that Elisabeth Rochat de la Vallee will be attending the conference in person to deliver the keynote speech and other lectures throughout the weekend of 7-8 June at Kents Hill Park Conference Centre in Milton Keynes.

Elisabeth is one of the most beloved figures in Chinese medicine in the West. A prolific teacher and author, it is no exaggeration to say that there is no current practitioner in the West who hasn’t been profoundly influenced by the depth and nuance of her teachings. Her ability to connect us to both the poetry and science of the medicine through deeper understanding of its foundational concepts has shaped the development of the way Chinese medicine has been taught, irrespective of style or lineage.

The theme of the conference is ‘Cycles of Life’, emphasising the key theoretical foundation of Chinese medicine in its deep understanding of cycles. There will be workshops across the weekend on topics from paediatrics to geriatrics and everything in between. Elisabeth herself will also be deepening our understanding of how cycles and phases pervade the medicine.

This conference will also be a key opportunity for us as a community to come together and reflect on the current phase of the development of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in the UK and how we meet the challenge of passing on a tradition from generation to generation. This will be a unique opportunity, not only to hear from great speakers, but to connect across the generations and participate in the flow of tradition and the passing of the torch of wisdom and knowledge.

The conference design is the tree of tradition and knowledge that we get to be temporary custodians of through our life of practice. The tree itself reflects the different stages and seasons of its lifespan and its journey through the five phases. From green to red to yellow to white and the black branches that support transmit water to the whole organism.

In the centre is the character, ‘jie’ which means node or phase. Over the course of the next year you will hear much more about this character which has multiple meanings which beautifully illuminates the concept of cycles within our tradition.

Save the date – 7-8 June 2025 at Kents Hill Park Conference Centre in Milton Keynes.

We have plenty more exciting announcements to make about the conference and booking will open soon at the official website.
