Conference programme
We are excited to share the conference programme, which has been curated so that it has relevance to both acupuncture and herbal medicine. Every session is open, understandable and immensely useful to all, no matter your background.
Acupuncture and herbal medicine meet at the point of the practitioner. Accordingly, we have placed the practitioner and clinical applications at the heart of this conference. From fertility to cancer support, PCOS to chronic inflammation, NHS integration to teaching dietary self-help, this year’s conference has it all!
Conference theme
Our theme for the conference in 2024 will be the Chinese concept yì (意) which can be translated as intention, wish or purpose.
As practitioners we often first come across yì as the spirit of the spleen. We learn that this spirit in its pathological state is si 思, sometimes translated as ‘overthinking’.
Yi sits between thought and feeling, between consideration and action and between intellectual learning and the direction of energy. Hence, it is a perfect symbol of our medicine which is epitomised by its ability to capture the dynamic interplay between the rational and the intuitive.

Applying ‘yì – intention’ in practice. Highlighting our conference theme, dual member of the BAcC and RCHM, Charlie Buck, will give a talk on ‘yì – intention’ and its application to practice, leading into a roundtable discussion on the topic with other conference speakers. Also, Rev Deb Connor is back by popular demand to help you explore your relationship with yì through a hands-on creative practice.
Achieving clinical success in practice. This year’s conference has a key focus on practitioner development. We are very lucky to have Julie Reynolds with a session on applying our ancient theories to a modern context, and Sarah Price (pictured) with acupuncture, herbs and research on treating chronic inflammation. Popular acupuncture teacher Sia Wang will present the simple four-needle technique, ‘five element, six qi’, that she uses in her clinic. Students and new practitioners will find great benefit from our dedicated session on practitioner development, ‘Supporting your path to success’; more details to be announced.
Focus on fertility. We are delighted to be joined by president of the ATCM, Mei Xing (pictured), who will be sharing her insights on treating infertility in the clinic, further extending the spirit of collaboration to the wider community of expert practitioners in the UK. In addition, we are honoured to present the president of the Austrian Society for Controlled Acupuncture and TCM, Dr Olivia Pojer on male infertility. Furthermore, accomplished practitioner and academic Lily Lai PhD will present on PCOS. This will culminate in a roundtable discussion with all speakers at the end of the day.
Cancer Support. On the Sunday, Beverley de Valois PhD and Mandy Brass (pictured) will be sharing their deep insights and experience with acupuncture and cancer support. Another panel discussion session will follow their presentations.
Yangsheng and dietary therapy. Danny Blyth and Alex Jacobs will be bringing a yangsheng and dietary therapy focus where you will learn herbal logic that you can use straight away with food and culinary herbs. No prior knowledge or experience is needed to get to grips with these sessions.
Leading the way – learning from experience with NHS integration. Integration of our practice into national healthcare is a key priority. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from BAcC Members Fleur Clackson, Jennie Heckford, Wendy Williams who have had great success in delivering acupuncture within the NHS. Additionally, Joe Jennings joins us to talk about the highs and lows of NHS integration. They will be running sessions on the Sunday as well as participating in a roundtable.
This year is so much more than just a conference, it is an opportunity for us to come together, gather our energy of intention and manifest the future that this great medicine deserves. We invite you to be a part of everything that is happening this year, connect with your fellow practitioners and have a fantastic time in the process!
